May 23, 2018
BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University men’s basketball player Siaan Rojas will play for the Colombian National Team in the upcoming South American Games that will be held May 26-June 8 in Cochabamba, Bolivia.
Rojas, a guard/forward who will be a senior in 2018-19 for the Vikings, is a dual citizen of the United States and Colombia. His father, Pablo Rojas, was born and raised in Colombia.
Rojas is scheduled to travel to South America later this week to start training with the Colombian National Team, with the basketball competition beginning on June 3.
“I am looking forward to playing for Colombia in the South American Games and honoring part of my heritage,” said Rojas. “I think it will be a great experience to play against top competition in an international event.”
After transferring from Santa Rosa Junior College, Rojas sat out the 2016-17 season as a redshirt. He made his Western debut in 2017-18 as the Vikings 6th man, averaging 8.9 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. He appeared in all 29 games to help lead the Vikings (21-8 overall, 16-4 GNAC) to a 2nd-place finish in the GNAC. Rojas scored in double-digits in 15 games, including a season-high 17 points Feb. 1 at Central Washington.
“This will be a great opportunity for Siaan and I am very proud that he will be representing Western Washington University and our men’s basketball program at an international event of this magnitude,” said WWU head coach Tony Dominguez, who recently completed his 6thseason leading the Vikings and 23rd overall at WWU.
