HarbourCats Use Longball to Snap Bells Win Streak

June 23, 2018

The Victoria HarbourCats broke out the bats Friday night to snap the red-hot win streak of the Bellingham Bells. 3 Victoria home runs led them past Bellingham 5-4 at Royal Athletic Park, handing the Bells a loss after 8 straight wins.

The 3-4-5 hitters, Jason Willow, Jedediah Fagg and Jack Smith all hit home runs to pace Victoria to the win. The HarbourCats improve to 9-7 on the year, 2.5 games behind first-place Bellingham (13-6) in the West Coast League North Division.

It was Bellingham's first loss since Falling to Bend back on June 12th.

The Bells got a strong performance out of shortstop Ernie Yake, who went 3-for 5 with a triple, 1 RBI and 1 run scored. Zach Needham hit his second home run of the season.

Owen Sharts (1-0; 2.34 ERA) picked up the victory for the HarbourCats. Bellingham's Davis Baillie (1-1, 1.52 ERA) suffered his first loss of the year.

The two teams play the middle game of this 3-game set today. Grant Holman is expected to get the start for the Bells versus Garrett Goodall for Victoria. First pitch is at 6:35pm.
