Track & Field: Two State Champs for BHS

Bellingham Track & Field is off to a great start at the 2A/3A/4A state tournament at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma. The Red Raiders have claimed two championships on day 1 of state.
Senior Nicholas Oesterling won the boys javelin with a throw of 190' 8". Senior Ryan Manju claimed the boys long jump championship with a mark of 21' 6.25".
Other Whatcom County top-10 finishers on Thursday at 2A/3A/4A State:
Girls Discus 2A: Mary Carbene - Sehome 2nd
Maharani Prasad - Blaine 10th
Boys Shot Put Ambulatory: Spencer Asakura - Sehome 4th
Boys Long Jump 2A: Dylan Mayo - Bellingham 3rd
The 1A/1B/2B state tournament got underway Thursday at Eastern Washington university in Cheney. The highest Whatcom County finish came in the 1A Boys 1600 Meter Run. Eric Steiger and Brooks DeWaard of Lynden Christian finished 3rd and 4th respectively.
The only other local top-10 finisher was Meridian's Kady Aamot who came in 7th in the 1A Girls Pole Vault.
Action continues at both locations through Saturday.
