Tough Regional in Auburn for Sehome Baseball
May 18, 2018
The Sehome baseball team is back in the state tournament for the first time since 2011. In order to move on for a shot at a state title, the Mariners will have to survive a brutally tough regional Saturday at Auburn High School.
Sehome (17-7), the second place team out of district 1, will face R.A. Long (16-4) at 10:00am. A win would move the Mariners on to the regional championship game versus the winner of the Fife (21-3) versus Ellensburg (18-4) game.
"The way I looked at it and probably several other coaches, is to say we probably have the toughest region," said Sehome head coach Monte Walton. "So I think who ever comes out the region is going to have gained some really positive vibes heading into the state finals."
Ellensburg is the defending 2A state champs, Fife is ranked 5th in the state and R.A. Long was riding a 14-game win streak before falling in the district championship game last Saturday. That one-run loss was to the 2017 2A state runner-up team W.F. West.

Sehome will give the ball to Evan Kingma to start against the Lumberjacks on Saturday. Kingma is coming off a dominant performance in the district semifinals May 8th. The senior picked up the complete game 4-2 victory over Anacortes, giving up just 3 hits and striking out 7.
"Evan, our bulldog, we're gonna put him out there in the first game and I'm sure he'll be competitive and give us a good seven innings," said Walton.
