Sweets Edge Bells at Joe Martin

The Bellingham Bells opened up play after the West Coast League All-Star break with a tough loss at home. The Walla Walla Sweets topped the Bells 5-4 Wednesday at Joe Martin Field.
Despite being out-hit overall, a 3-run 5th inning paved the way to victory for the Sweets. Infielder Jordan Hovey led the way going 2-for-2 with a home run , 2 RBI's and a walk.
Matt James led Bellingham at the dish going 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored. The Notre Dame sophomore upped his batting average to .327 on the year. Zach Needham went deep for the Bells with his 4th home run of the season.
Brayden Hirai (5-0; 2.93 ERA) got the victory in relief for Walla Walla after surrendering just 2 runs and striking out 3 batters. Bellingham starter Wesley Moore (0-1; 3.64) took the loss.
The season series between the Bells and Sweets is split at 2-games each. Nick Hull is scheduled to pitch for Bellingham tonight vs. Zach Penrod for Walla Walla. First pitch is at 6:35pm.
