Prep Football: Big Games on Week 3 Slate
September 14, 2018
While non-conference match-ups dominate week 3 of the Whatcom County prep football season, one perennial powerhouse team is still looking for their first win as they begin league counters. There's also some international flavor and one squad will be sitting things out tonight.
Only 1 game features two local squads squaring off against each other as Blaine plays host Lynden Christian. Both the Borderites and Lyncs head into Friday's game with 2-and-0 records. It's the first meeting between the the two since Blaine edged Lynden Christian 20-19 back in 2013.
At halftime the 1978 Blaine state championship football team will be honored. The team will celebrate a 40th anniversary and retire QB Curt Kramme's jersey during a halftime ceremony. For more on the event and an interview with 1978 Blaine team captain Darryl Sharp, listen to the opening segment of The Cover Three Podcast.
Elsewhere Ferndale will open WESCO 3A North play still looking for their first victory of the year. The Golden Eagles will host Marysville-Getchell. The Chargers snapped a 13-game conference losing streak with a 16-0 shutout of Stanwood last week. You can hear the game on The Doug Lange Network beginning at 6:45pm.
Lynden and Meridian will face international competition Friday facing teams from British Columbia. The Lions host Lord Tweedmuir, while the Mission B.C. visits the Trojans.
Lummi Nation has a week off following a forfeit by Muckleshoot and a cancelation by Seattle Lutheran.
Other 9/14 games:
Cascade (Leavenworth) at Mt. Baker
Nooksack Valley at King's
Squalicum at Marysville-Pilchuck
Sehome at Centralia
Sammamish at Bellingham
*All Games are scheduled for 7:00pm kick-offs.
