Portland Rallies Late to Sweep Bells

The Bellingham Bells had a rough visit to the Rose City. The Portland Pickles scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th Sunday beating the Bells 6-to-5 to sweep the three-game series at Walker Stadium.
Third baseman Sam Novitske singled home the game winning run for the Pickles. With the sweep Portland improves to a league best 33-and-15 overall.
Portland closer Leo Niereenberg (4-1; 3.91 ERA) pitched two innings to get the win. The University of Washington right-hander did not allow a hit and struck out 2 batters.
Bellingham's Ben Leeper (4-1; 3.09 ERA) suffered his first loss of the season. Matt McClain went 2-for-5 with an RBI and 1 run scored. Zach Needham added 2 RBI's in the loss.
The Bells (30-17 overall) are off Monday. They open up a 6-game homestand with a match-up against the Cowlitz Black Bears Tuesday at Joe Martin Field.
