Prep Hoops: Regionals Set
The WIAA has set the prep basketball regional pairings. Seven Whatcom County teams are moving on. In the 2A classification the Lynden boys and girls will join the Lynden Christian boys and girls, the Mount Baker boys, the Nooksack Valley girls and the Meridian girls out of the 1A at regionals/state.
Here are the pairings (Regional Games played Feb. 23rd & 24th):

1A BOYS

1A GIRLS

Mat Classic XXX Yields 2 Local State Champs
Whatcom County has two prep wrestling state champs following Mat Classic XXX in Tacoma this past weekend. Bellingham High School senior Lynette Samano won the in the girls classification. Squalicum senior Brian Pullman was victorious in the 3a ranks.
Samano, wrestling as part of the Bellingham School District, beat Payton Stroud of White River 3-2 in the 120 pound weight class.
Pullman took home the 220 pound title for the Storm with a 3-1 overtime victory over Sam Peterson of Bonney Lake.
Checking local team finishes, the Bellingham School District placed the highest in the girls classification at 26th with 26 points
On the boys side, Mount Baker was the top finishing local team in 1A at 18th with 34 points. Blaine finished 13th in the 2A with 39 points and Ferndale came in 18th in 3a with 29.5 points.
