Sehome & Lynden Christian are Scholastic Cup Champs

As the 2017-2018 high school academic year comes to an end, Whatcom County has been honored with two Scholastic Cup Champions. Sehome and Lynden Christian were crowned champs by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association of the 2A and 1A classifications respectively. 

Sehome won their fourth-consecutive 2A Scholastic Cup with 1,435 points, easily outpacing second-place Selah and their 1,140 points. Bellingham came in third with a mark of 1,105. The Mariners were paced by their dual WIAA State Championships from the boys and girls cross country teams. The other championship came on the academic side with the girls soccer team earning the Scholastic Award. It's the seventh overall Cup for Sehome. 

Lynden Christian won the 1A division with 1, 500 points. The Lyncs were powered by their boys and girls basketball state championship teams. LC  also tallied four scholastic championships in girls cross country, girls golf, orchestra and softball. The award is the first for Lynden Christian which has three second-place Scholastic Cup finishes.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Scholastic Cup recognizes the top school in each of the six WIAA classifications based on academic, athletic and sportsmanship excellence. Points are awarded by a school’s finish in each of the WIAA/Dairy Farmers of Washington/Les Schwab Tires State Championships and Academic State Championships.

Other classification winners include Almira Coulee Hartline (1B), Saint George’s (2B), Interlake (3A) and Camas (4A). Check out the rankings for each classification as well as detailed scoring from the WIAA.
