Lynden Christian's Avery Dykstra named 1A State Player of the Year.
March 20, 2018
Lynden Christian guard Avery Dykstra is the 1A State Player of the Year. The senior received the honor from the Washington State Girls Basketball Coaches Association Saturday at the All-State game at King's High School.
There was plenty of Whatcom County flavor on the hardwood at the All-State game. Dykstra was joined by LC teammate Sam VanLoo, Nooksack Valley’s Katrina Gimmaka and Meridian’s Ellesse FitzGerald.
Dykstra averaged over 11 points per game this season, leading the Lyncs to the 1A state championship. Lynden Christian came from behind late to win 50-48 win over Cashmere in the title game March 3rd in Yakima.
Dykstra was named to the All Northwest Conference Girls Basketball 1st team earlier this month. She has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Western Washington University Vikings starting with the 2018-19 season.
In other honors, Lynden Christian coach Brady Bomber was named WSGBCA State Co-Coach of the year with Freddie Rehkow of Central Valley. Gimmaka was selected as player of the game in the 1A vs. 2A match-up.
