Lloyd & McGhee Lead Squalicum to Big Win
Over Arlington
September 8, 2018
Squalicum quarterback Spencer Lloyd and WR/DB Declan McGhee put on a show at Civic Stadium Friday night. The two seniors lead the Storm to a 42-21 victory over Arlington in Wesco 3A North league opener for both schools.
In a game heard on The Doug Lange Network, Squalicum racked up 523 yards of total offense on the night and turned a 14-14 tie at halftime into a runaway victory. Lloyd accounted for most of the damage, rushing for 203 yards on 27 carries with two touchdowns. He also went 8 of 13 through the air for 185 yards and one score.
The signal-caller gave credit to his lineman for opening holes and giving him time and to his receivers for beating their men, making for easy wide open passes. Despite his outstanding individual performance, Lloyd told OnTheDLN.com this was a team victory.
Lloyd's lone TD toss went McGhee for a 50 yard score in the second half. McGhee also intercepted Wesco All-League quarterback Anthony Whitis and returned it 58 yards to the house for a defensive score to give the Storm a lead they would never relinquish.
Squalicum head coach Nick Lucey was really impressed by his team's defense in the second half and had high praise for McGhee.
Squalicum improves to 2-0 on the year as they now prepare for their first road game of the season September 14th at Marysville-Pilchuck. Arlington drops to 1-and-1 and will host Stanwood next week.
