Former WWU All-American Bethany Drake to Compete for Team USA

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Former Western Washington University Track & Field national champion and three-time All-American Bethany Drake will compete for Team USA this weekend in the NACAC Championships (North America, Central America and Caribbean) in Toronto.
Drake (Sandy, OR) will compete in the javelin on Sunday at Varsity Stadium on the University of Toronto campus. Competition is scheduled to begin at 3:05 pm ET/12:05 pm PT and can be followed via live webcast via AthleticsCanada.tv. Live results can also be tracked online via DeltaTiming.com.
Drake enters the competition with a season-best and PR mark of 54.20m/177-10 set earlier this summer in a 4th-place finish at the 2018 USATF Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, Iowa. She is seeded third in the event that currently has five competitors from Canada, Puerto Rico, Jamaica and USA.
During her career at Western, Drake was a three-time All-American and two-time NCAA Division II national champion in the javelin. She won the NCAA II titles as a sophomore (2014) and senior (2017), while also earning runner-up honors as a junior (2016). She also earned numerous academic awards during her WWU career, including being named a four-time USTFCCCA All-Academic selection and was the 2016-17 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Drake, who graduated from WWU in 2016 with an art education degree and obtained her Master in Teaching in 2017, is currently an art teacher at Bellevue Christian High School in Bellevue, Washington. Her javelin travels can be followed through her Instagram account @BethanyDrake1.
