Pair of OSU Cowboys Coming to Bellingham Bells
February 26, 2019
BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Bellingham Bells have announced the addition of one current and one future Oklahoma State Cowboy to their 2019 roster. Peyton Battenfield, a junior right-hander, and catcher Nick DeNicola, an Oklahoma State commit, will spend the summer in Bellingham competing for a West Coast League title.
Battenfield is a six-foot-four-inch native of Claremore, Okla. who has had a successful first two seasons at OSU. A 2018 All-Big 12 honorable mention selection, Battenfield led the team with 26 appearances last year. He sported a 4.66 ERA with 62 strikeouts in 56 innings.
“Peyton is a late innings guy with the ability to start games,” Bells manager Bob Miller said. “He pitches between 89-92 mph with a true power curveball and throws meaningful innings at OSU. He should be a big part of our staff next summer.”
A sports management major, Battenfield also helped the Cowboys to their second Big 12 title as a freshman in 2017.
DeNicola begins his first year at Paris Junior College after spending his two prior collegiate seasons at West Virginia University.
The six-foot Hanover, N.J. native is now a redshirt sophomore at Paris where he is off to a hot start, leading junior college baseball with seven homeruns through the first month of the year.
“Nick is a quality defensive catcher,” Miller said. “He should be a great asset to our pitchers with his ability to receive pitches and block balls in the dirt. Offensively, Nick should provide a physical presence to our lineup.”
Battenfield and DeNicola will begin the year with the Bells on June 4 against the Kelowna Falcons at Joe Martin Field.
