Sehome's Smith Named Defensive Player of the Year

Sehome pitcher Savannah Smith has taken one of the top 2 honors with the release of the All Northwest Conference Softball teams. The senior has been named Defensive Player of the Year. The squads, announced earlier this week, were voted on by the NWC coaches.
Smith pitched every inning of each game for Sehome, compiling a record of 18-6 to lead the Mariners to the state semifinals. According to WhatcomPreps.com, she finished with a 1.72 ERA and racked up 266 strikeouts.
Anacortes outfielder Megan Bellusci was named Offensive Player of the Year. Tom Swapp earned Coach of the Year honors after leading Anacortes to a 19-2 record and a league title.
Sehome, and Anacortes each placed 3 players on the first team to lead the way. Megan Hall and Natalie Zender joined Smith for the Mariners. Riley Pirkle and Lindsey South rounded out the trio with Bellusci for the Seahawks.
