Vikings Announce First Wave of Recruiting Class

March 24, 2019

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Western Washington University Track & Field and Cross Country program has announced its first wave of recruits for the 2019-2020 season.

Head coach Pee Wee Halsell and assistant coaches Ben Stensland and Eric Dudley have signed 12 Vikings that will debut during the 2019-20 season, including one sprinter that is expected to see action this spring during the outdoor season.

The class includes 11 state finalists and three state champions that have won a combined nine state titles. Eight women and four men make up the first batch of recruits in a class that will grow in size over the spring and summer.

WWU has had great success during the cross country, indoor and current outdoor season in 2018-19. The Vikings were one of only 18 cross country teams across the nation to compete in the NCAA II Championships in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at the Division II Fall Championships Festival. The men won the 2019 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Indoor Championships team title and both the men and women are ranked in the top 10 in the current outdoor team rankings.

“It is a great time to be a Viking and we are excited about the student-athletes that will be joining our program,” said 32nd-year head coach Pee Wee Halsell. “Ben (Stensland) and Eric (Dudley) have done a great job finding these recruits and adding them to our program.”

The first wave of the 2019-20 WWU Track & Field and Cross Country recruiting class includes the following future Vikings:
