Kara Bajema Named to U.S. World Games Roster
March 22, 2019
Lynden's own Kara Bajema has been named to the U.S. Women's Collegiate National Team World University Games roster. The former Lynden Christian and current University of Washington star is part of the 12-player team announced by USA Volleyball last week.
The CNT-WUG squad, comprised of current collegiate players, will leave the United States June 30 and to travel to Napoli, Italy, to compete in the World University Games. The volleyball schedule has preliminary round matches from July 4th-11th, followed by semifinals on July 12th and medal-round matches on July 13th.
Bajema led Lynden Christian to 1A state titles as a junior and a senior while earning back-to-back Northwest Conference MVP honors. The 6-foot-2 standout also lettered four years in basketball. She won state titles for the Lyncs in 2014 and 2016, while being named state MVP as a sophomore and a senior.
Bajema is heading into her senior year with the Huskies after an outstanding junior campaign. She garnered her first All-America honor as a third team pick by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. The Dawgs' Outside Hitter was also named to the All-Pac-12 and AVCA All-Region Teams.
There will be some familiar faces on the World University Games squad. Bajema is joined by her Washington Huskies teammate in Middle Blocker Avie Niece. The team will also be led by UW head coach Keegan Cook.
