3 Vikings Selected to 2019 GNAC All-Conference Team

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University women’s basketball players Anna Schwecke, Lexie Bland and Kelsey Rogers have been selected to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference 2018-19 All-Conference Team.

 

Schwecke leads the trio as a second-team selection, with Bland and Rogers  earning honorable mention honors. 

Schwecke (Evergreen, CO/Clear Creek) enters the postseason averaging 11.9 points and 8.0 rebounds per game. The junior is shooting 57.2% for the season (135-for-236), the 7th-best mark by a Viking player during the 21-year NCAA era (since 1998-99). Schwecke leads the conference in field goal percentage, while also ranking 4th in rebounding, 5th in blocked shots (1.1 blocks/game) and 16th in scoring average. She is also tied for 5th in the league with six double-doubles and tied for 4th with seven games with double-digits in rebounds.

 

Rogers (Bothell, WA/Lynnwood) leads the Vikings averaging 12.0 points per game, scoring in double-digits in 18 of 28 games, and is tied for 2nd in the GNAC with five games with 20-or-more points. Rogers is shooting 51.2% from the field, going 144-for-281, and is a 75.0% free throw shooter (48-for-64). She ranked 9th in the conference in field goal percentage, 4th in blocked shots (1.2 blocks/game) and is 14th in scoring average.

 

Bland (Ellensburg, WA) earned honorable mention acclaim after ranking amongst the top point guards in the conference. She is averaging 3.4 assists per game to lead the team and rank 10th in the GNAC, and is also 12th averaging a team-best 1.6 steals per game. The junior is averaging 8.7 points per game while starting 27 of 28 games, and is scoring at a 13.2 points per game clip over the last six games of the regular season.

 

WWU (16-12, 11-9 GNAC) opens postseason play on Thursday as the No. 6 seed in the GNAC Women’s Basketball Championships. The Vikings will take on No. 3 seed Simon Fraser at 2:15 pm in Carver Gym with WWU serving as the tournament host. Alaska Anchorage senior forward Hannah Wandersee was named the GNAC Player of the Year after leading the Seawolves to the regular-season conference title. Ozi Nwabuko of Simon Fraser was selected as the Defensive Player of the Year, Saint Martin’s Claire Dingus was the Freshman of the Year and conference leading scorer was voted as the Newcomer of the Year. UAA Head Coach Ryan McCarthy was named the Coach of the Year.
