Lynden's Clayton Whitman Honored by WIAA

March 6, 2019

Fresh off of helping the Lynden boys to the 2A state championship, forward Clayton Whitman has been honored by the Washington Interscholastic Athletic Association. The senior was named a WIAA Athlete of the Week.

Whitman averaged 23 points, 5.33 rebounds, 2 assists, 1.66 steals, and 1.33 blocks per game. He was named the 2A State Tournament Most Valuable Player for the second straight year after Lynden repeated as state champions. The Lions beat Selah 60-51 on March 2nd in the Yakima SunDome.

After winning the state championship Whitman told the NFHS/Eli Sports postgame show that much of the credit for another Lynden state title goes to the bench and depth of the team.

"I'm just thankful for all of them," said Whitman. "Because really when we talk about it in practice, we're playing one of the best teams in the county like all the time, because our other five are so strong and they help so much more than just in the games."
