January 29, 2019
RENTON, Wash. - The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association has named their new leader. The WIAA Executive Board has selected Mick Hoffman as the next Executive Director of the Association. Hoffman, who currently serves as an Assistant Superintendent for Vancouver Public Schools, will replace current Executive Director Mike Colbrese, officially beginning in the summer of 2019.
“The WIAA Executive Board is very impressed with Mick’s longtime dedication to education and education-based activities,” said Board President Pat McCarthy. “The future of the WIAA is bright with Mick’s skill and leadership.”
Before taking over as an Assistant Superintendent, Hoffman served as the District Athletic Director for Vancouver Public Schools from 2007-15. He also represented WIAA District IV on the WIAA Executive Board from 2016-18 where he was a member of the Classification Committee and chaired the WIAA Recruiting Committee.
“It’s an honor to be considered to lead such an amazing organization that serves our state,” said Hoffman. “I’ll look to continue the great work that Mike has led with the staff and board for the last 25 years.”
Hoffman, who taught at both Fort Vancouver High School and Hudson Bay high school and has head coaching experience in basketball and golf, will be the fifth Executive Director in WIAA history, replacing Colbrese who is in his 26th year with the Association.
