Prep Football Training Camp - Sehome Mariners
2017-2018 Record: 4-6; 1-0 in League
Sehome beat Seton Catholic 41-13 on October 14th last year. It was the first Mariners victory in 23 games, but it didn't stop there. Sehome won their final 4 games to wrap up the season.
So what's next for the the Mariners?
Second year head coach Kevin Beason says the team feels a little more established and comfortable. He also made sure to point out that the team can't rest on the laurels of a great finish that was 9 months ago.
Beason says he's looking for his team to impose their physicality on their opponents. To that end, expect running back Dylan Roberts to get the rock. The senior scored 14 touchdowns last year and with a big o-line in front of him, he'll be looking to improve on that total.
The optimism level is high this season according to Roberts. He thinks the biggest change came after finally learning they can win last year.
Sehome is in the Lake Division of the Northwest Conference 2A ranks. They will battle it out with Mountlake Terrace, Blaine, Bellingham, Cedarcrest and Anacortes. Coach Beason says they are not worrying about the new look of the conference.
"We have a schedule, we're going to play it. I'll play anybody, anywhere, anytime."
That schedule starts out with some tough non-conference games versus playoff teams from a year ago in Nooksack Valley and Mount Baker. The Mariners get the season underway August 31st on the road agains the Pioneers.
