Prep Football Training Camp - Squalicum Storm
2017-2018 Record: 6-4; 2-4 in League
What a difference one score can make. The 2017 Squalicum football team suffered 4 Wesco North losses and missed going to the post-season. 3 of those losses were by 8 points or less.
After getting outscored by almost 3 points a game in league contests last year, the 2018 version of the Storm is looking to clamp down defensively and get back to the playoffs.
Storm head coach Nick Lucey says he wants to see some of his young guys step up on defense to take some of the pressure off and allow the offense to run the ball downhill.
Lucey expects big things from his returning dual threat quarterback in senior Spencer Lloyd as well as junior WR/DB's Devante Powell and Dedrick Mitchell.
Upfront the coach singled out two-way linemen Jackson Campbell and Dominick Mack.
Mack likes what he's seeing and says the game is slowing down for him. After putting in the work during the offseason, he says everything is coming together for his senior year.
As for another tough Wesco North schedule, Lucey sounds ready to bounce back. "That's kind of the fun of high school football, there can be some variance from year-to-year and there's some good coaches in this league, so it will be fun to play."
A quick start could be possible with 3 of their first 4 games at home at Civic Stadium. The second half of the schedule looks daunting with 3 road games including trips to Ferndale and Oak Harbor. Squalicum will open the season versus Redmond at home August 31st.
