2/13 Local Sports Cancellations & Changes
February 13, 2019
More snow and more alterations to the sports schedules for athletes, coaches and fans in Whatcom County and beyond. Here's your update for Wednesday, February 13th. This has been very fluid, please check back for updates throughout the day.
Prep Basketball
It appears we will have some district tournament basketball today. The Lummi Nation School is closed again today, but according to the Lummi Communications Twitter feed the Lady Blackhawks are scheduled to travel to Mount Vernon Christian for a 4:30pm 1B tournament playoff game versus Tacoma Baptist.
The boys are scheduled to play at home Thursday versus either Fellowship Christian or Evergreen Lutheran at 6:00pm.
1A district tournament games will be played tonight, despite the fact Lynden Christian, Meridian & Nooksack Valley are all closed today. Times and locations have changed. Here is the new schedule:
Girls 2/13
Lynden Christian at Meridian 4:00pm
Nooksack Valley vs. Kings at Mt. Vernon High School 6:00pm
Boys - 2/13
Cedar Park Christian at Meridian 6:00pm
Lynden Christian vs. Kings at Mt. Vernon High School 7:30pm
In the 2A, All the second round district playoff games have been rescheduled for Thursday, February 14th, weather permitting. Here is the schedule for the games involving Whatcom County teams:
Girls - 2/14
Cedarcest at Lynden 5:00pm
Bellingham at Archbishop Murphy 6:00pm
Boys 2-14
Sehome at Mountlake Terrace 7:00pm
Bellingham at Lynden 7:00pm
The 2A district tournament will now run through 2/17, with games scheduled to be played on Sunday. Check out the updated brackets for the girls & the boys via NWCAthletics.com.
In the 3A ranks, the Ferndale girls game at Snohomish is currently scheduled to be played today. The tip-off is now scheduled for 1:00pm. The Squalicum at Arlington boys game has been rescheduled to Thursday at 5:00pm.
Prep Wrestling
After the winter weather forced the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association to cancel all of the regional wrestling tournaments this past weekend, the WIAA has released the schedule and brackets for a new 32-entry format for Mat Classic XXXI at the Tacoma Dome. Registration begins on Thursday with action scheduled for Friday and Saturday.
Friday's schedule calls for the first session (3A, 2A. & 1B/2B) between 8:30am - 2:00pm. The second session (4A, 1A, & Girls) follows from 2:00pm - 8:00pm. On Saturday the third session (all classifications) between 9:45am - 2:00pm and wrapped up with the Championship Finals (all classifications) beginning at 5:00pm.
Prep Swimming & Diving
State swimming and diving is schedule to start Friday (2/15) at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way. According to the News Tribune of Tacoma that event could be impacted depending on how long the snow storm lasts.
WWU
Tuesday's Western Washington University men's basketball game at Simon Fraser University was postponed due to the inclement weather in Bellingham and Burnaby, BC.
The game will now be played during the final week of the 2018-19 regular season on Tuesday, February 26th at 7:00pm on the Simon Fraser University campus in West Gym.
WCC
The Whatcom Community College men's and women's basketball teams were scheduled to play on the road at Bellevue College tonight. Those games have been postponed to Thursday, February 14th.
Tip-off for the women is scheduled for 5:00pm with the men to follow at 7:00pm.
Bellingham United FC
Saturday's Washington Indoor Soccer League semifinal match between Bellingham United FC and Tacoma Narrows FC at the Bellingham Sportsplex has been postponed by a week. The semi-finals will now be played on 2/16 and the finals on 2/23.
