City Seniors Sweep Basketball Classic
The City teams picked up two victories Friday night at the 32nd annual Basketball Classic at Jake Maberry Gymnasium. The hoops showcase sponsored by the Boys and Girls Club of Whatcom County celebrates the top Whatcom County seniors.
In the girls game The City held on for a 72-68 win over the County. Meridian's Ellesse FitzGerald led the way with 16 points. McKenzie Yost of Mount Baker topped the County team with 17 points.
Lynden's Sierra Smith won the 3-point shootout with 10 3-balls.
In the boys game, despite trailing for most of the contest, the City squad used a big 4th quarter to get an 85-75 win over the County. Reid Benson of Ferndale had 22 points for the City squad. Lynden Christian's George Dejong led the County with 25 points.
Meridian's Bailey Hodge took the 3-point shootout title with 10 long-balls. Dejong won the slam dunk contest.
