Burkett, Abitia & Whittern Named to All-State Teams

Three Whatcom County seniors have been honored after playing in the 2018 Feeder Games. Meridian's Simon Burkett, Lynden's Trevor Abitia and Shane Whittern of Lynden Christian have been named All-State and will play in All-State Series this weekend in Yakima.
Burkett, a right-handed pitcher and outfielder who helped lead the Trojans to the Regional round of the state tournament, was named to the Team Adams. Burkett went 6 -and-3 with 61 strikeouts and a 2.50 ERA. He hit .295. with 18 RBI's. Burkett is heading off to Eastern Washington University to play football.
Abitia, a right-handed outfielder, was named to Team Rainier. He hit .329 with 1 home run, 29 RBI's and 8 stolen bases for the Lions. He is headed to Skagit Valley College in the fall.
Whitern, also a right-handed outfielder was named to Team St. Helens. He hit .453, for the Lyncs, with 15 RBI's & 20 stolen bases.
All three players were named 1st team All Northwest Conference.
One other player from the Northwest Conference was named All-State. Burlington shortstop Tyson Ross was named to Team Baker after hitting .350 with 17RBI's and 9 stolen bases for the Tigers.
The All-State Games are Saturday and Sunday at Yakima County Stadium and are part of the 2018 Washington State Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame weekend.

The Northwest District feeder Games were held last week at Joe Martin Field in Bellingham. The four teams are selected by coaches from various locations across the state to ensure proper representation.
