Blazers thump Southern Oregon in playoff opener

The Bellingham Blazers jumped out to an early 3-0, first period lead and easily won their WSHL quarterfinal playoff series opener over Souther Oregon 8-2 Friday night. The Blazer lead the best-of-three series 1-nothing heading into Saturday's game 2 match-up with the Spartans at the Bellingham Sportsplex.
Bellingham registered 42 shots as Ruslan Novruzov and Ilya Abubakirov each scored two goals in the victory. Tommy Steven, Spencer Vockel, Jamahl Eakett and Sam Whitehouse also found the back of the net for Bellingham.
Kolter Pawlick had 29 saves as Bellingham notched their 6th straight win over Southern Oregon.
Game two is scheduled for a 1:45pm puck drop on Saturday at the Sportsplex.
