Blaine Gets Revenge Win Over Mountlake Terrace
October 27, 2018
The Blaine football squad is off to the district playoffs. The Borderites punched their ticket with a 28-10 victory over Mountlake Terrace Friday night at Edmonds District Stadium.
The win avenges a 40-0 lopsided regular season loss to the Hawks. Blaine has now won three straight since falling to Mountlake Terrace on October 5th.
The Borderites got big performances out of senior running back Alex Mercado and sophomore quarterback Will McKinney. Mercado was the workhorse with 189 yards on 29 carries, while McKinney scored three short rushing touchdowns.
Linebacker Hudson Reid returned an interception for a touchdown in the 4th quarter to seal the victory. The senior said he initially was just trying to tip the pass from Mountlake Terrace QB Elijah Dahlman,
"I was supposed to blitz, but then I saw him drop back and he was looking right at me so I knew the receiver had to be somewhere behind me. I stuck my hands out and the ball was right there," said Reid.
Trailing 10-7 late in the second quarter, the Borderite defense rose to the occasion blocking a short field goal attempt and holding the Hawks scoreless in the second half.
Blaine (5-4) moves on to a district playoff match-up with undefeated, No. 2 ranked Lynden (8-0). The Borderites and Lions will play Friday, November 2nd at Civic Stadium with a 4:30pm kickoff.
