Yakima, WA - The No. 8 Bellingham Red Raiders girls cross country team took 3rd overall scoring 37 points at the Sunfair Invitational at Franklin Park in Yakima last Saturday, September 29th.

At the Sunfair Invite, teams don't race all 7 of their varsity runners together. Instead, teams put their athletes in combined races based off of their spot on the team. For example, the No. 1 runner from your team will run against the other No. 1 runner from other schools.

Bellingham's Annika Reiss and Livi Lackland Henry led the Red Raiders with their 1st place finishes in the girls No. 1 and No. 3 races. Reiss ran 18:28.61 and won by almost 30 seconds beating Kennewick's Geraldin Correa. Henry ran 19:37.77 edging out South Kitsap's Evelyn Collins-Winn for the win.

Grace Much also did well for Bellingham placing 2nd in the No. 2 race running 19:50.86. Lily Malterre (No. 6, 6th), Piper Brown (No. 5, 7th), and Lily Koplowitz-Fleming (No. 7, 7th) scored well for Bellingham in their races.

Lynden's Frances Perry and Amsa Burke were the only runners for the Lions to compete in the varsity races. Perry ran 23:39.17 and was Lynden's overall fastest runner. Burke ran 24:46.37 in her race.

On the boy's side, Lynden's Tate Hutchins finished 16th in the No. 1 race but had the fastest time of the day for the Lion running 16:58.50. Hutchins, who had missed last weeks meet due to illness, hasn't run in a race since the South Whidbey Invite.
