1A Baseball: Meridian tops LC on way to state
May 12, 2018
The Meridian baseball squad rode Simon Burkett past Lynden Christian Saturday, securing a berth to 1A state. The senior struck out 11 batters helping the Trojans to a 2-1 victory over the Lyncs at Sehome High School and 3rd place in the bi-district tournament.
Meridian senior catcher Baker Otter was the hitting star. His 2-out, RBI double scored what would prove to be the game winning run in the bottom of the 5th inning.
Trojan head coach Steve Slesk said Burkett was impressive on the mound. "That might have been his best performance of the year, for sure," said Slesk. "He let it go at some points, he was probably 87, 88 (MPH) in there and his slider was really tough today."
With the victory the Trojans (16-8) will play at Castle Rock High School May 19th in the regional round of state. Meridian will play King's Way Christian at 1:00pm.
The season comes to an end for Lynden Christian. The Lyncs finished with a record of 14-ans-10.
In earlier bi-district action on Saturday, Meridian blanked Nooksack Valley 5-0 ending the season for the Pioneers (10-13). Lynden Christian was a winner over South Whidbey 5-1.
